What is the CAASPP?
The CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) is a California statewide test given to students grade 3-8 and 11 that measures students' proficiency in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.CAASPP scores impact what classes students are eligible to take at California universities.What sections are part of the CAASPP?
English Language Arts

The ELA portion of the CAASPP includes a multiple choice section, where students are tested in their reading comprehension of multiple literary texts. It also includes a performance task, where students analyze multiple sources to answer questions and write a full essay utilizing evidence from the provided sources.
Mathematics

The mathematics portion of the CAASPP includes a multiple choice section, primarily revolving around algebra, geometry, and statistics. It also includes a performance task, where students are given a free response question and must input numbers or a detailed explanation as an answer.
Science

The CAST (California Science Test) includes a multiple choice section, with its questions primarily revolving around biology, chemistry, and some aspects of physics. It also involves a constructed response, where students must answer free response questions and offer detailed explanations.
CAASPP Outcome Categories
The CAASPP classify student performance into four outcome levels, indicating if a student has met California’s achievement standards or not.
